gearing up and winding down

Winding down -

My plan is to be done with all projects (kcs design related) by August 1st, which is only but a mere month away! A few more wedding invitations to get ordered and two websites left to finish, in a month’s time, I can do it! I can do it!

Gearing up-

We’re at 33 weeks this week, and I have to get my mind in the game to prep for baby boy’s arrival… including, but not limited to, finishing that nursery, staying on top of thank you notes, finishing some baby book reading, getting everything organized and in it’s place, and preparing my mind and my heart… and I’m sure many more things I have forgotten.

We’re getting there.

I don’t know when you start the countdown, or if a countdown is even relevant because obviously due dates are an estimate. But 7 weeks to go, give or take!

Jer says this is our family photo with baby boy’s ghost in the background, ha! So weird.

rocketman!

So, earlier, when I posted the update on the baby boy and his room, it was hard to not reveal very much, but I simply couldn’t because the bedding issue was so influx, mainly because it was out of stock for the longest time! But today, I checked (like I do everyday) and it was there, so it is purchased and hopefully en route to us soon! So, without further adieu, the rocket ship bedding:

Although, there is no orange, I fully expect to be adding pops of orange around the room for fun.

After 6 or so samples, the paint color I chose is called River Mist and is a Martha Stewart color (but in Behr). I think it will complement well and not overwhelm anything (that’s the goal).

We also got our glider & ottoman in this week, the glider looks like:

but ours has a ribbed type fabric.

We also have an awesome dresser from j.bradley which will be delivered soon! It looks like:

For now, the nursery is completely empty, well except for one lone desk chair. Jer has moved his office downstairs and is a bit cramped with all of the other things in that small room as well. It’s hard to move from 3 bedrooms down to 2, much harder than I thought it would be. We are a house in transition right now and things are in odd places, bookshelves in the hallway, a glider in the living room, etc.

The nursery will also double as a guest room, because it is quite a large space!

Tomorrow, several friends are coming over to help paint, of which I am so thankful, and we’re going to knock out some river mist!

Then it’s time for crib assembly, and to put the room together! I’m getting excited. Can you tell?

our baby shower in Raleigh

My sister, my mom, and my aunts planned a spendid baby shower in Raleigh for me, Jeremy and baby boy! It was a great mix of food, friends, and family!

It was held at my sister’s & bro-in-law’s home.  Her and her hubs Jason, have done an amazing job with their home. You wouldn’t believe the projects and things they’ve attempted and overhauled since they moved in 4 years ago. I’m always so amazed! (their latest project is a sunroom, these are no small projects, folks).

This time, I got to be one of the projects, well, this event, anyway, and they did a fantastic job of hosting. Every detail was taken into consideration. Those are the types of events I love. Like this sweet bench that was my grandmother’s filled with shower favors, pots of flowers, including baby boy’s eta! So sweet and thoughtful!

Or this anthropologie-like table… oh my!

And the food, the FOOD! My family is incredible at making just about any kind of food item you could think of, we had a delicious assortment of cupcakes, lemon pound cake (actually made by a family friend!), fruit, pimiento cheese (homemade by Momma Cain), chicken salad (homemade by Daddy Cain), ham biscuits, and the list goes on.

I snagged a few pictures, although, my bro-in-law Jason was the true photog at this event, I can’t wait to see the pictures he captured!

Here are a few more details of the event… and pictures of the fam, too!

Thanks to all of my family and friends for a fantastic Raleigh shower, we’re so thankful that this little one is so loved and supported by so many!

the update on the baby boy & his room

Well, baby boy seems to be doing swimmingly. (Get it?)

He’s growing like a little weed in there, today we are at 29 weeks, he weights 2.5 pounds and is 15 inches long!

He’s jumping about too, which is still really fun for me, I love it that he’s enjoying womb- life!

From the last time I posted about baby boy’s room, a lot has changed, mainly in terms of simplicity! The main thing that has changed is the bedding issue, I’ve gone from trying my darndest to find fabric I love, to simply giving into some fabulous dwell studio bedding, that’s actually affordable, and cute. And, amazingly enough, once I decided on this, the ideas started flowing.

Where we are in the process is:

  • we have a sample can of paint (we gotta test this out before I’m buying gallons & gallons of it)
  • bedding is picked out!
  • crib is here (as you know, from our massive ikea trip)
  • the glider is on order (should be in soon!) (thank you 20% off coupons for saving us lots on this!)
  • we’ve found an awesome dresser from our talented friend, brad
  • i purchased a few canvases on major sale at ac moore (i’ve got big plans for them!)
  • i’m building a custom mobile, and i’m slowly collecting supplies, hint: maps
  • and some accessories!

I know I’m not giving away a lot of details, but I’m waiting till we actually have everything put together, so you can SEE it, instead of guessing at it.

Tonight, I’m off to find a crib mattress so I can use another 20% off coupon!  And possibly work on two of the projects I have planned for his room!

baby boy’s room.

Commonly asked questions in pregnancy at this stage:

Do you have a name?

YES! We have a name, and no we are not telling.

Have you bought a lot of baby stuff?

Not really. A crib at ikea. I think it’s so cute. Some little things, a hat, burp cloths, books, a onesie, a diaper bag.

Do you feel him kick?

Oh yes! Often!

I first came up with the design for baby boy’s room a few months ago when I wasn’t feeling so great. It was a great way to keep me entertained.

I pulled fabrics from Amy Butler, paint color, furniture, and some existing pieces in, to create this mood board:

1. Paper lanterns and accent puffs, also wall color (but not striped)

2. Baby boys crib, this is the actual crib that we purchased!

3. Cute owls from etsy or somewhere.

4. Curtains, also Ikea, this might change.

5. A white dresser that will double as a changing table.

6. Rug, the actual one we purchased!

And now, the fabrics have shifted, based on what’s really available in my town, and that’s okay too.

My friend Lauren helped me pick out some fabrics in blue and orange at a nearby fabric store, that will be used as a crib skirt, possibly curtains and maybe a crib bumper. She also helped me with the ever-so daunting task of picking out paint colors, I’m just no good in this category, at least not yet.

I’ve tried to also design the lay out of baby boy’s room with it trying to double as a guest bedroom, but I’m having little luck getting things to look the way I want on paper, and let’s be honest, it will all change anyway once we get everything into his room and what’s most practical.

So what do you think? Blue and Orange? Does it work?

it’s a……

We went to the doctor this morning and found out the news! We’re so excited for our sweet baby boy! I’ve been feeling this little one kick around in there a lot more in the past few days! It is exciting to me, because I know he’s doing good in there! The doctor said that everything looks great, which is so fun to hear especially since I can’t always tell what’s on that screen.

Thanks for being excited for us! It means so much!

i’ve got a lot to learn…

I know that. And I embrace that. I’ve been swirling around several websites lately that have really inspired me and have taught me about motherhood, saving moolah, inspiration, what to do, what not to do, etc. I’ve landed on the fact that this will be a process. One of those sites I will highlight is…

Money Saving Mom – this site is so inspirational because not only does it push the envelope on finding good deals, she has also challenged me in a big way to plan out books I’m going to read and to actually read them, with this post.

Now, granted, this is her job to maintain this site and to blog, but I was just amazed at the organization and the time and talent that it takes to pull something like this off. Needless to say, I’m inspired!

As you know, in light of my recent attempts to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (again), and plant my own garden (updated pictures coming soon!), eat seasonally, and to spend 10% of our food dollars on local produce. One thing I’ve yet to share, but certainly will soon, is our switch to use toxic-less cleaning products through Shaklee.

This video was super inspiring to me and proof that we are on the right track. Thanks to my friend, Jenny Vetter for sharing it!

What books and blogs do you recommend for knowing/learning mommyhood and baby?

Also, what things should I absolutely, without a doubt register for, and what things should I skip over?

Any advice from knowing-mommies is much appreciated!
