it’s a……

We went to the doctor this morning and found out the news! We’re so excited for our sweet baby boy! I’ve been feeling this little one kick around in there a lot more in the past few days! It is exciting to me, because I know he’s doing good in there! The doctor said that everything looks great, which is so fun to hear especially since I can’t always tell what’s on that screen.

Thanks for being excited for us! It means so much!

meal planning

One way to save tons of money is through actually planning your meals. Instead of running to the store and just picking up whatever pops into your head. A few weeks ago I mentioned a deal on facebook through e-mealz, which was $12 for 6 months of meal planning services, normally would cost $30, through Moolala.

A new service, that I haven’t heard of just popped onto the scene today, called Fresh 20, each week you buy only 20 ingredients to make 5 meals. The best part is the ingredients are local & seasonal, which definitely lines up with my desire to spend 10 percent of my food dollars locally! The deal today is through plum district (a site similar to groupon, living social, etc) for $15 for 6 months worth of meal plans (use the code plumspring11 to get $4 off! Think of how much money it will save you when you know what to buy & the confidence it will give you eating locally & seasonally especially if some of the ingredients come from my own garden!

i’ve got a lot to learn…

I know that. And I embrace that. I’ve been swirling around several websites lately that have really inspired me and have taught me about motherhood, saving moolah, inspiration, what to do, what not to do, etc. I’ve landed on the fact that this will be a process. One of those sites I will highlight is…

Money Saving Mom – this site is so inspirational because not only does it push the envelope on finding good deals, she has also challenged me in a big way to plan out books I’m going to read and to actually read them, with this post.

Now, granted, this is her job to maintain this site and to blog, but I was just amazed at the organization and the time and talent that it takes to pull something like this off. Needless to say, I’m inspired!

As you know, in light of my recent attempts to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (again), and plant my own garden (updated pictures coming soon!), eat seasonally, and to spend 10% of our food dollars on local produce. One thing I’ve yet to share, but certainly will soon, is our switch to use toxic-less cleaning products through Shaklee.

This video was super inspiring to me and proof that we are on the right track. Thanks to my friend, Jenny Vetter for sharing it!

interests.

do you remember when facebook placed this big emphasis on interests and music and movies. everytime someone would change one of those it would appear highlighted in light yellow on your friend list (before there was a newsfeed!). i had forgotten all about it. until i was testing out my new facebook email address (wha?) kellycain@facebook.com yes, it really works, too! and it pops up the last time you sent a message to whomever is in the “to” field. this time it was me, and apparently i sent myself a message with a list of interests on june 13, 2007 and this is what it said:

ode to yellow.

To yellow,

Yellow there.

You are bright, cheery, sunshiney, happy.

I just got this email from Crate & Barrel about all of their yellow offerings.

It was so beautiful & bright that I had to share it. I want everything, even that pepper mill and the bird cage that I have absolutely no use for. I am confident I would find one.

You might remember my living room post – about the sudden presence of yellow combined with blue & green. Oh and golden yellow too, that’s a shade I love (which is in the plan for baby’s room, which I will share when we find out the gender!)

A few months ago I introduced lovebird joy the paper focus on wedding, party, and joyful life events! Well, just yesterday I was working on some business cards and postcards for this brand. Even they have yellow. What do you think?

Even kellycain.com might look better in yellow. Hmm….

weekend wonderful

Jer and I  just got back from a marriage conference on love & respect, based on the book Love & Respect. This was not your typical marriage conference, there were singles there, (gasp!) Principles were taught that anyone could benefit from hearing, regardless of your situation, married, single, widowed, divorced, separated, dating, engaged…

The whole thing is based on two simple principles.

LOVE EMPOWERS a husband to energize his wife

RESPECT EMPOWERS a wife to energize her husband

Bottom line: unless we embrace these concepts we’ll find ourselves caught in the crazy cycle.

If we find ourselves stuck in this pattern, there is hope.

It was 9 hours of content. Straight up. Good stuff. The conference was held at the Holiday Inn Sunspree at Wrightsville Beach, it was so lovely there with this beautiful weather that it was hard to go inside for the conference.

Afterwards we had lunch at David’s Deli in Lumina Station and then went to the library book sale. More on that to come.

house tour: living room

I have decided, since the rearrange (ie since I love my home again) to post a few pictures of our living room. Each week, I’ll post pictures of a different room of our home, which will serve two purposes.

1. It will give me a reason to clean

2. It will serve as a before and after for when we add/change furniture, and for when I decide to up and rearrange again.

Today’s room is the living room. All of a sudden it’s filled with yellow, blue, and green. I like this color combo, but it was a bit unexpected.

Nevertheless, here are a few pictures of our living room as is now.

A few changes you’ll expect to see in the next few months are.

1. Add curtains: a room just isn’t the same without curtains, I don’t care who you are.

2. Add a floor lamp for behind the sofa area.

3. Add cushy chairs.

4. Put something in that beautiful frame my brother-in-law made for Jer and I.

5. Change up the mantle, this is one of my all time favorite ways to switch it up decor wise (besides rearranging, of course!)

Ikea will solve all of these issues in about a month.
